Combination of counseling & medication is more effective than either alone
Women 35 years of age who smoke should NOT be taking estrogen-containing oral contraceptives, due to ↑ CV events
The "5 A's" of Smoking Cessation
 • Ask about Tobacco use
 • Advise to quit
 • Assess willingness to quit
 • Assist in quitting
 • Arrange follow up
E-Cigarettes
 • Carcinogens & other chemicals can be present
 • NOT recommended for smoking cessation
Pharmacotherapy:
 • Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT): Patch, Gum, Lozenge, Inhaler, Spray
 • Bupropion (Wellbutrin SR)
 • Varencicline (Chantix)
