Causes of Pharyngitis - Differential Diagnosis
Infectious:
• Bacterial: Group A Strep, Group B and C Strep, Arcanobacterium, haemolyticum, Fusobacterium necrophorum, Mycoplasma and Chlamydia, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Francisella tularensis
• Sexually Transmitted: Neisseria gonorrhoeae, HSV, Rarely Syphilis
• Viral: EBV, CMV, HSV, Respiratory Viruses
Autoimmune: Lupus, Behcet syndrome, ANCA vasculitis, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Autoinflammatory syndromes such as PFAPA, Kawasaki disease, Neutropenic stomatitis
Drugs: SJS/TEN, DIHS (formally DRESS), Drug-induced agranulocytosis, Drug-induced mucosal ulcers
