Alcohol Withdrawal Timeline
Minor withdrawal (6 to 36 hours) - Tremulousness, mild anxiety, headache, diaphoresis, palpitations, gastrointestinal upset; normal mental status
 • Seizures (6 to 48 hours) - Single or brief flurry of generalized tonic-clonic seizures, short postictal period; status epilepticus
 • Alcoholic hallucinosis (12 to 48 hours) - Visual, auditory, and/or tactile hallucinations with intact orientation and normal vital signs
 • Delirium tremens (48 to 96 hours) - Delirium, agitation, tachycardia, hypertension, fever, diaphoresis
