Acute Schistosomiasis: Katayama Fever
 • Most common in travelers and children
 • "Swimmers Itch" in the lower extremities, papular or urticarial rash
 • Systemic hypersensitivity reaction to the schistosome antigens and circulating immune complexes—coincides with beginning of egg production and rapid increase in Ag burden (3-8 weeks post exposure)
 • Fever, myalgias, arthralgias, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, rarely angioedema. Hepatomegaly and splenomegaly
 • Eosinophilia in 30-60%
