Hepatic Encephalopathy Treatment
• Lactulose:
- Oral liquid, 30-45mL 2-4x/day, titrated to 2-4 BMs/day. (can be given via NG tube if patient unable to safely swallow)
- Via enema if intolerant to oral route
• Rifaximin 400mg tid (non-absorbable)
• For refractory cases, can consider: Neomycin, Branched chain amino acids
