What is Asymptomatic Bacteruria (ASB)?
Bacteriuria (isolation of urinary pathogen at ≥10^5 CFU/mL in mid-stream urine) in the absence of genitourinary signs or symptoms
What are symptoms of a UTI?
 • Urinary frequency, Urinary urgency, Dysuria, Suprapubic tenderness, Costovertebral angle pain or tenderness, New or worsening urinary incontinence, Gross hematuria
What are NOT symptoms of a UTI?
 • Confusion, delirium, disorientation, Decreased appetite, Decreased balance, falls, Wandering, Verbal aggression, Foul smelling urine
Misdiagnosis of UTIs can lead to problems:
 • Missing the true cause, Adding to medication burden & drug interactions, Promoting true UTIs by altering microbiome, Causing C. difficile infections, Causing antimicrobial resistance, Increasing adverse events
