4) Amebae (cysts and trophozoites) can enter humans in various ways
5) Through the eye - Results in severe keratitis of the eye.
6) Through nasal passages to the lower respiratory tract - Results in granulomatous amebic encephalitis (GAE) and/or disseminated disease in individuals with compromised immune systems.
7) Through ulcerated or broken skin - Results granulomatous amebic encephalitis (GAE), disseminated disease or skin lesions in individuals with compromised immune systems.
