Multiple Myeloma Diagnosis and Management Summary
Clinical Signs:
 • hyperCalcemia 28% (bone demineralization)
 • Renal disease 48% (light chain cast nephropathy and hypercalcemia)
 • Anemia 78% (bone marrow replacement) - Usually normocytic but can be macrocytic
 • Bone pain 58% (osteolytic lesions and pathologic fx)
Diagnosis - Clonal bone marrow plasma cells >10% plus one of:
 • Anemia. Hgb < 10
 • Ca > 11
 • Creatinine > 2
 • >5mm osteolytic lesion
 • >60% plasma clonal cell in bone marrow
 • FLC ratio >100 if FLC value is also >100
