Haemophilus influenzae on culture and microscopy
Immunosuppressed patient, recently diagnosed with Flu A. Presents after initial improvement with fever.
Blood cx +ve on chocolate agar. Gram stain from plate.
Who am I? What nutritional requirements help differentiate me from other similar species ?
This was H. influenzae
It requires heamin (factor X) and NAD (factor V)
Hence its growth on chocolate agar which is a variant of the blood agar plate. It contains RBCs that have been lysed by slowly heating to 80°C to release those yummy factors needed for bacti growth
