Post Cardiac Catheterization Complications
Access site complications
• Hematoma - Pain, swelling, bruising
• Retroperitoneal bleed - Lower abdominal, back, or flank pain, hypotension, tachycardia
• Pseudoaneurysm - Pain, swelling, pulsatile mass with bruit
• AV fistula - Pain, swelling, bruit, palpable thrill
• Thrombosis or embolism - Limb pain, pallor, paresthesia, pulselessness
Systemic complications
• Vasovagal response - Hypotension, bradycardia, presyncope
• MI - Chest pain, diaphoresis
• Cardiac tamponade - Chest pain, dyspnea, hypotension, elevated JVD
• Stroke - Neurologic change
• Allergic reaction/anaphylaxis - Dyspnea, wheezing, rash, airway edema, hypotension
• Contrast induced nephropathy - Rise in Cr 48-72h post contrast
