Neisseira meningitidis - Treatment Principles
 • Prompt antibiotics — do not delay for LP!
 • 3rd-gen cephalosporin (CTX), penicillin (if susceptible), or chloramphenicol if beta-lactam allergy.
 • Droplet precautions for 24h after effective antibiotics
 • Chemoprophylaxis: rifampin, cipro, or CTX
    - for close contacts (>8h contact, <3ft in 7d before symptoms)
    - for patient for eradication of nasopharyngeal eradication if didn't get 3rd-gen cephalosporin
