Capnocytophaga
GNR with long fusiform shape.  Fastidious facultative anaerobe that grows slowly and needs enriched agar
C. animorsus = most common cause of severe disease in humans. Normal flora in oral cavity of dogs (and cats)
Classic clinical scenario: septic shock with fever, rash, hypotension, renal failure --> can evolve to purpura fulminans or gangrene
Risk factors for severe disease: contacts with dog (bite/scratch), immunocompromised host, asplenia, cirrhosis
