Liposclerosing Myxofibrous Tumor (LSMFT) - MSK Radiology
Imaging Findings:
 • Geographic lucent lesion with sclerotic margin in the intertrochanteric region of the right femoral neck.
 • Low signal sclerotic rim with high-signal on T2-sequences and isointense to muscle on T1-sequence. There is homogenous post-contrast enhancement of the lesion.
Case description:
 • Rare fibro-osseous bone lesion with propensity for intertrochanteric region of femur (80-90%).
 • Despite its name; distinct fatty components or fat signal not seen.
 • Potential for malignant transformation (10-15%).
     - Follow-up imaging is preferable with MRI to evaluate for interval change. If change or symptoms → surgical tx.
Differential diagnosis for bone lesion:
 • Fibrous dysplasia: more low-signal intensity on fluid sensitive MRI sequences.
 • Intraosseous lipoma: Usually has macroscopic fat; whereas LSMFT do not typically have obvious lipomatous components.
 • Aneurysmal bone cyst: expansile.
