Peripheral Vertigo
Time course and symptoms characteristics are very helpful in distinguishing between causes of peripheral vertigo.
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV):
 - Timing: Brief (seconds) but recurrent episodes
 - Reproducible with certain movements
Vestibular Neuritis:
 - Timing: Continuous episodes, lasting days
 - May (or may not) have a viral prodrome
Meniere's Disease:
 - Timing: Recurrent episodes lasting minutes to hours
 - Spontaneous. May have hypoacusia or tinnitus, although initially may be absent
