Joint Approach to Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA)
JIA is a clinical diagnosis - Diagnostic criteria:
 • One of more joints involved
 • Length of arthritis > 6 weeks
 • Onset at age < 16 years old
 • Rule out other etiologies
Physical Exam:
 • Watch how they walk in
 • Make the exam like gym class!
 • Evaluate for symmetry
 • Look for signs of chronicity ex. leg length difference
Treatment - Aggressive treatment at initiation is warranted to preserve joint function. Multidisciplinary treatment is ideal!
 • 1st line: Methotrexate
 • 2nd line: Add on a biologic
