Pleuroscopy in a patient with Hemothorax
Two weeks ago the patient fell on the left side and broke 8 ribs. Now he came to our clinic with shortness of breath. In the chest xray there was a huge pleural effusion . We decided to perform a Pleuroscopy- A procedure which is done under sedation without the need of a general anesthesia or intubation / ventilation.
I took out 2.5 liters of a bloody effusion (hemorrhagic). The polypoid structure looked like a mesothelioma but luckily it was just an organized blood clot.
Two days after pleuroscopy the chest tube was removed and the patient was sent home the same day.
