Navigating a Rapid Response Team (RRT)

Assert Leadership:
 • Stand at foot of bed
 • Introduce yourself as RRT leader
 • Ask for brief summary of what is going on
 • Confirm code status

Initial Assessment:
 • Ask RN to place patient on telemetry and pulse ox
 • Ask colleague to perform targeted exam
 • Confirm IV access
 • Order labs. EKG. CXR

Repeatedly summarize:
 • Concise one-liner
 • Current problem
 • Leading Dx & DDx
 • Orders placed, treatments provided, tasks to be completed
 • Ask for input and concerns

Wrap up RRT:
 • Final summary
 • Determine disposition (remain on floor vs ICU)
 • Outline contingencies
 • Elicit concerns and questions
