Listeriosis Summary - Listeria Monocytogenes
Pathogen: Listeria Monocytogenes - Gram-positive rod, Aerobic, facultative anaerobe, motile, beta-hemolytic, Non-spore-forming
Risk Factors: Glucocorticoids, immunodeficiency, malignancy, pregnancy, Age > 65, PPI use
Food: Cold cuts, pate, hot dogs, soft cheese, frozen food, salad bar
Clinical Presentation:
 • Gastroenteritis → Invasive disease
 • Pregnancy
 • CNS infection 
Diagnosis: 
 • Stool culture (Gastroenteritis)
 • PCR, not widely available
 • Blood culture (Invasive disease)
 • CSF (CNS Infection)
 • MRI / CT if focal symptoms
