Patient's presenting after high velocity motor vehicle collisions with a neck seat belt sign are at risk for blunt carotid artery injury including arterial dissection, intramural thrombus formation, pseudoaneurysm, and/or thromboembolic events leading to ischemic stroke. Initial recommended study to evaluate for blunt carotid artery injury is CT angiography of the neck.
