Acute and Critical Limb Ischemia Critical Limb Ischemia (CLI): • Severe form of PAD that includes limb pain at rest, nonhealing wounds, or tissue loss. • 1-year incidence of mortality & amputation is ~20%. • Prevalence is estimated at 1.3% (11% of all PAD cases). Acute Limb Ischemia (ALI): • Rapid decrease in LE blood flow due to acute occlusion of peripheral artery or bypass graft. • Etiology is broadly divided into embolism & thrombosis with various comorbidities. • Abrupt pain, numbness, coldness of LE, & paresthesia, contracture, and irreversible purpura will appear with the exacerbation of ischemia.
