Beevor's Sign on Physical Exam

Beevor's sign is abnormal upward (cephalad) movement of the umbilicus with truncal flexion.  This usually reflects lower rectus abdominis muscle weakness or paralysis from spinal cord lesions between T9-T12.  The sign been also been observed in ALS, facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) and inclusion body myositis.
