Types of Melanoma Superficial Spreading • Most common form • Often develops in previously benign mole • Can be found almost anywhere. Most common place: men = trunk, women = legs • Follows the ABCDEs of early detection • 70% of all melanomas Nodular • Raised and firm to the touch • Grows and spreads very quickly • Can be black/blue or pink/red • Defies many of the ABCDEs of early detection • 10-15% of all melanomas Acral Lentiginous • Most common type of melanoma in Asians and African Americans • Can be found on palms of hands, soles of feet, under fingernails and toenails and in the mouth and tongue, among other places • <5% of all melanomas Uveal or Ocular • Melanoma of the eye • Most form in parts of the eye you cannot see in the mirror • Early ocular melanoma hard to detect • Least common type of melanoma • Only 3% of all melanomas #Melanoma #Types #differential #diagnosis #classification #dermatology
