Hip fracture 
75% happen to older women
Leading cause of morbidity (30%–50% lose functional independence) & mortality (∼ 22% Mortality rate at 1 year). 
∼ 20% develop a postop complication- chest infections (9%) & Heart Failure (5%)
Heart Failure has a very poor prognosis, with a 1 year mortality of 92% and a 30 day mortality of 65%. 
For chest infections, the one year mortality is 71% and 43% within 30 days.
Though controversial, widespread evidence that early operative intervention does improve outcomes, including morbidity (especially infections), pressure sores, pain, and length of stay.
