Status Dystonicus on Neurological Exam

Young man with recent onset worsening of his generalized dystonia , fever and a CPK level of 120,000. Status Dystonicus (SD) is defined as “increasingly frequent and severe episodes of generalized dystonia, which requires urgent hospital admission.

Also called a dystonic storm. Clinical features are fever, tachycardia, respiratory change, hypertension, sweating and autonomic instability and elevated serum CK.
