Full Can Test for Supraspinatus Injury on Shoulder Exam

The patient's arms are elevated to 90 degrees of shoulder flexion in the scapular plane, with thumbs pointed upward. The patient resists a downward force applied by the examiner. The test is positive if there is pain or weakness.

This is similar to the empty can test but better isolates the supraspinatus.
