Apley Compression Test on Knee Examination

With the patient prone, the knee being tested is flexed to 90 degrees while the other leg is fully extended. The examiner applies an axial compression force on the leg, while applying internal and external rotation. Pain is indicative of meniscal injury. This test is usually performed along with the Apley Distraction test (for ligamentous injury).
