Ober's Test for TFL/ITB Inflammation

With the patient in the lateral position, affected side up.  The patient grasps the bottom knee, flexing the hip.  The examiner supports the upper knee which is flexed to 90 degrees.  Then examiner then extends and abducts the hip, then slowly lowers the leg towards the table (hip adduction) until motion is restricted.
In a normal test, the knee will drop below horizontal without pain.
In a positive test, adduction is restricted or pain in the lateral knee.
