Fluids, Electrolytes, Acid-Base ) General Concepts > < Osmolality vs osmolarity ★ Osmolality [H 20) Milliosmoles per kg of water. The osmolality is the number of (mOsm/a€nKg solute osmoles (number of particles that contribute to an os- motic pressure) in solution. For a fully dissociated salt, like [NaCI, the osmolality of 1 mole of salt is 1 Osm of Na +1 Osm of CI = 2 Osms. Osmolarity (mOsm/â€OL [H 20) Milliosmoles per liter of water. At room temprature, 1L = 1 kg water, therefore, this is equal to osmolality, but, since the density of water changes with temprature, this measure is tempra-ture dependent. However, for small solute concentrations, it can be assumed the two are equal. #Fluids #Electrolytes #AcidBase #GeneralConcepts #Osmolality #Osmolarity #FluidsAndElectrolytes #AcidBaseBalance #GeneralConcepts #Osmolality #Osmolarity #ACID#BASE
