Neonatal Infant Pain Scale (NIPS) For infants less than one year of age, the Neonatal Infant Pain Scale (NIPS) uses observational and physiologic parameters to detect pain (Table 2). A score of 0-2 indicates no pain present. A score of 3-4 indicates mild to moderate pain; non-pharmacologic techniques may be tried first in this group. A score of 5 or greater indicates severe pain; pharmacologic intervention is indicated (Lawrence 1993). #Diagnosis #Peds #Pediatrics #PainScale #Neonatal #Infants #NIPS #Assessment
