Triggers of Anaphylaxis

Anaphylaxis is a systemic response to a specific allergen, usually occurring within one hour of exposure. The most common triggers are food, insect stings, and medications (Table 1).  Food-related reactions are most common in children up to four years of age, and medication reactions are most common in patients older than 55 years.
