Evaluation of Electrical Injury in the Emergency Department
Common Injuries by System:
CNS - Seizure, coma, spinal cord injury (can be delayed) — high voltage
Cardiac - Vfib/asystole — usually immediate, prior to ED arrival
MSK - Fractures, dislocations (posterior shoulder - AC), rhabdomyolysis,
compartment syndrome - high risk in high voltage
Skin - Burns, may be severe and deep especially with AC
HEENT -Cataracts (delayed), TM rupture, hemotympanum
