Evaluation of Electrical Injury in the Emergency Department 

Common Injuries by System:

CNS - Seizure, coma, spinal cord injury (can be delayed) — high voltage 

Cardiac - Vfib/asystole — usually immediate, prior to ED arrival 

MSK - Fractures, dislocations (posterior shoulder - AC), rhabdomyolysis, 
compartment syndrome - high risk in high voltage 

Skin - Burns, may be severe and deep especially with AC 

HEENT -Cataracts (delayed), TM rupture, hemotympanum
