Blunt cerebrovascular injury (BCVI)

Blunt cerebrovascular injury (BCVI) can have
severe neurologic sequelae. Early diagnosis is
crucial, as BCVI can be seen on imaging
modalities before the onset of neurologic
symptoms. If diagnosis and treatment is delayed
until after the onset of profound neurologic
deficits, revascularization does little to improve
outcomes. In addition to preventing neurologic
damage, early diagnosis of BCVI in high-risk,
asymptomatic patients with arteriogram is cost-
effective in stroke-prevention.
