POCUS Echocardiogram Volume Assessment

Echo provides increased accuracy and insight into volume state assessment. This grid illustrates 2 extremes of volume state:
- A hypervolaemic patient with LV systolic failure
- A hypovolaemic patient with a hyperdynamic heart

Optimal volume assessment integrates:
1. PMHx - particularly any recent echo while euvolemic
2. Hx - weight change/dehydration/intake/output
3. Rx - PEEP/diuretics/fluids/inotropes
4. Physical Exam
5. POCUS - minimum of IVC, LV, RV, B-lines, plus valves ideally
