Chlamydia trachomatis - Infection of the Newborn
 • Newborns 3-16 weeks old 
 • Afebrile (appears "non-toxic") 
 • Staccato cough (for several weeks) 
 • Tachypnea 
 • Conjunctivitis (treated with oral antibiotics...not topical) 
 • Pneumonia (treated with azithromycin) 
3 Pathologic Chlamydial organisms: 
 - Chlamydia trachomatis (cervicitis, newbom pneumonia & conjunctivitis) 
 - Chlamydophila pneumoniae (mild pneumonia in young adults) 
 - Chlamydophila psitacci (Psittacosis from infected birds)
