Prescription Fish Oils
Prescription fish oils, Lovaza, and Vascepa, are commonly used for treatment of hypertriglyceridemia (TG > 500). Although fibrates are great for this indication, they can't be used with statins, and this is why fish oil's are commonly used. Lovaza is available as a generic and has great TG lowering, but comes with the cost of increasing LDL due to the DHA component. Vascepa solely lowers TG without effect on LDL. Both are dosed at 4 caps per day either at once or split into 2 doses.
