Thyroid Function Pathway

Hypothyroidism is a very common condition! Here's a repost of the pathway that is deficient in hypothyroidism. Remember that though it is HYPOthyroidism, it is diagnosed with a HIGH TSH and a low T4. This is because if T4 is low, the body is naturally trying to compensate by increasing more and more TSH to stimulate more T4/T3 production. Once diagnosed, patients are treated with levothyroxine (T4) and titrated to the correct dose based on TSH levels.
