Ellipta Inhalers
We have 5 total inhalers that are in the Ellipta device form. An easy thing to remember is that any Ellipta inhaler is dosed simply as 1 inhalation/day. There is an Ellipta inhaler for every recommended combination therapy based on patients varying severity of asthma or COPD. The only combination that doesn’t exist is a LAMA/ICS combo, but that is not a recommended regimen for any situation. Ellipta’s are dry-powdered inhalers (DPI) meaning that the patients breath is what brings the drug to the lungs, there is no propellant. Counsel patients to take a deep steady breath to deliver the drug. Also make sure patients do not open the cap unless ready to take a dose, as opening the cap is what loads the dose. If the cap is opened and closed, the dose will be lost/wasted. Also, rinse/spit if there’s an ICS component!
