Antecubital Vein examination to estimate JVP/CVP
In this video, the antecubital veins move between
Below [RA + RA pressure] (distended) and
Above [RA + RA pressure] (collapsed)
The exact level (vertical distance relative to RA) where they collapse can be used to estimate RA pressure in cmH2O.
Most of the time JV exam will be easier and more accurate. E.g. in a cold room, venoconstriction of arm veins -> underestimate RAP. Or upper arm DVTs -> overestimate JVP. But in rare cases (neck is inaccessible, arm veins are prominent/vasodilated), it's a nice extra tool.
