JVP Respiratory Variation on Neck Physical Examination
If the prominence of pulsations swells and falls with the respiratory cycle, it’s more likely venous.
Whether the vessels swell with inspiration (Kussmaul’s) or expiration (most people as in this case, but especially people with bronchospasm) - they’re veins. Only venous pressures that vary visibly with the breathing cycle.
