Landau's Reaction (Reflex) on Physical Exam

Landau's reaction is investigated holding the baby firmly under the trunk, in a horizontal, suspended position. The examiner bends the baby's head, which is followed by trunk and leg flexion. The limbs, the head and the trunk usually return to the extension position. It can be said that it has three phases of extension. First the neck extension, then the trunk extension and finally the limb extension. This reaction starts around the 4th or 5th month and should be complete by the 12th month. When the reaction is complete, the child will be able to stand with gravity support.
