Lazarus Sign / Reflex in Brain Death - Head Flexion

The presence of this complex spinal reflex ( Lazarus sign) doesn't exclude the brain death diagnosis. The Lazarus reflex or Lazarus sign is a reflex movement in brain-dead patients, causing them to briefly raise their arms and drop them crossed over their chests. This sign is an example of a reflex mediated by a reflex arc- a pathway via the spinal column but not through the brain.
