Shawl sign poikiloderma in Dermatomyositis

Poikiloderma in general is a common finding in older individuals with chronic sun damage and leads to the fancy sounding entity of “poikiloderma of civatte” that you have probably noticed on individuals. The poikiloderma of dermatomyositis is usually more confluent and violaceous in color. This along with other signs and symptoms helps differentiate it from normal poikiloderma due to photodamage.
