Wrist Clonus on Physical Exam

Clonus is a reflex muscle contraction produced by a sudden extension of the tendon of a given muscle, occurring due to an exaltation of myotactic reflex activity (which is the motor activity that occurs in response to the stretching of a muscle) which results from injuries of the pathway pyramidal (the pathway that descends from the brain to the medulla). That is, when you have an injury in the pyramidal path (either at the level of the brain or spinal cord), the presence of clonus may occur.
