Superficial Abdominal Reflex
Let's recap the Cutaneous-abdominal Reflex.
The skin of the abdomen is stimulated with a movement in the medial direction. The answer is to contract the abdominal muscles on the same side. The proximal part, the middle part (level of the navel) and the distal part of the abdomen are tested, that is, epigastric (T6-8), umbilical (T8-10) and hypogastric (T10-12). It is a medullary reflex, present in normal people. The absence of this reflex suggests injury to the pyramidal pathway.
