Anterior Shoulder Dislocation: Pathogenesis, clinical, and radiographic findings

Trauma, Fall on, outstretched arm, Overhead throwing => Abduction and external rotation of the shoulder joint => Force exceeds tensile strength of muscle, tendon, ligaments and joint capsule => Anterior Shoulder Dislocation

 • Humeral head anterior to glenoid surface on axillary x-ray view -> Dislocation
 • Posterosuperior humeral head rests against rim of the glenoid -> Impaction of cartilage and underlying bone of humeral head -> Hill Sachs Defect
 • Humeral head dislocates anterior and inferior to glenoid -> Acute loss of lateral deltoid bulk
 • Structural damage to nerves, muscles, tendons, ligaments, joint capsule or bone -> Pain
