Acute Compartment Syndrome • Crush injuries, burns, circumferential constriction to limbs (each containing facially divided muscle compartments) -> Vascular damage, particularly arterial, prevents O2 and nutrient delivery to limb -> Local blood flow can't meet needs of affected limb, local signalling mechanisms reflexively try Incr to blood flow to area • Incr bleeding tendency/fracture of long bones, Prolonged limb compression, Extravasation of IV fluids -> More fluid pools outside the blood vessels of affected limb -> Intact fascia surrounding muscle compartment does not allow fluid to disperse. => Excess fluid in the compartment compresses the veins and venous outflow => Increased compartment pressure #Acute #CompartmentSyndrome #ACS #pathophysiology #orthopedics
