Presbyopia: Pathogenesis and clinical findings
 • Presbyopia is part of the normal ageing of the lens and its capsule, ciliary body, and zonular fibres
 • Conditions such as diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, heart disease, and Myasthenia Gravis may precipitate presbyopia
 • Use of medications such as antihistamines, antidepressants, and diuretics may precipitate presbyopia
 => Presbyopia
 • Decreased elasticity of the lens -> Decreased ability to assist in accommodation
 • Decreased ability of the ciliary body to contract -> Decreased ability to enable accommodation
 => Light rays from near objects converge behind the retina
