Glaucoma is a condition that involves an increase in pressure inside the eye. It occurs when the fluid in the eyeball, known as aqueous humour, fails to properly drain out of the eye, causing a build-up of intraocular pressure. Pilocarpine is a choline ester miotic and a positively charged quaternary ammonium compound. It is used to treat glaucoma and is the drug of choice in the emergency lowering of intraocular pressure of both narrow-angle (or closed-angle) and wide-angle (also called open-angle) glaucoma #pharmacology #treatment #management #medications #Ophthalmology
