Liver Enzymes (LFTs) - Causes of Hepatocellular and Cholestatic Liver Injury
Hepatocellular Liver Injury
 • AST/ALT elevation > Alk phos
 • ALT more specific for hepatic pathology (low level of expression in skeletal muscle and kidney)
Is it a Hepatocellular or Cholestatic Liver Injury?
 • R value = (ALT + ULN ALT) / (alkaline phosphatase + ULN alkaline phosphatase)
     R ≥ 5 = Hepatocellular injury
     R ≤ 2 = Cholestatic injury
