Echogenic Ascites in SBP on POCUS
RUQ FF in a pt w/ spontaneous bacterial peritonitis. The fluid has some scattered echogenicity to it. We always wondered if the ultrasound appearance of the fluid could predict SBP. Probably not, given this study: https://www.jem-journal.com/article 348 pts who underwent paracentesis, 12% rate of SBP.

Gross appearance of fluid (clear vs hazy) was only 72% sensitive; #POCUS is unlikely to do better. But it hasn't been studied as far as I know.
